Our Approach

From Milestones to Mastery

Every child develops differently. At MIM, we support that journey through three connected stages that reflect how children gradually build skills, confidence, and independence.

Stage 01 · Milestones

Building the Foundation

Every new skill begins somewhere.

Through nurturing relationships, play, movement, communication, sensory experiences, and exploration, children are supported as they reach important developmental milestones.

Supporting early growth and foundational development. We celebrate every small step in a nurturing environment designed for safety and discovery.

Stage 02 · Independence

Discovering “I Can”

As children grow, they naturally want to do more for themselves.

We create opportunities for children to make choices, try new things, communicate their needs, solve simple problems, and experience the confidence that comes from doing something independently.

Encouraging curiosity and exploration. Children are empowered to lead their own play, building self-reliance and the confidence to ask questions about their world.

Stage 03 · Mastery

Growing With Confidence

With experience and encouragement, new skills become familiar.

Children begin applying what they have learned through creativity, communication, relationships, problem-solving, and everyday experiences, building confidence for the next stage of their development.

Developing creativity and social skills. We prepare children for school readiness by fostering emotional intelligence and a lasting love for learning and discovery.

Curriculum

A holistic approach to early learning

Our curriculum follows a holistic approach to early learning, recognizing that every child learns, develops, and expresses themselves differently. Rather than following one single teaching method, we thoughtfully adapt our approach to each child’s individual needs, interests, abilities, and developmental stage.

Educators observe each child closely and create meaningful learning experiences that support cognitive, physical, social, emotional, language, and creative development. Children are encouraged to explore, make choices, build confidence, and learn in ways that feel natural and engaging to them.

Our program is also informed by the British Columbia Early Learning Framework, supporting children’s learning, development, well-being, and sense of belonging.

  • Active play every day

Infants enjoy supervised, interactive floor-based play: tummy time, reaching, rolling and crawling. Toddlers are offered at least 180 minutes of light, moderate and energetic movement spread through the day.

  • Outdoors, most weather

Outdoor play is provided daily (a minimum of 60 minutes, extended whenever possible) for physical health, well-being and a connection to the natural environment.

  • No screen time

In line with BC Active Play and Screen Time Guidelines, screen time is not part of our regular program.

  • Positive guidance

Educators model respectful communication, help children name and express feelings, offer choices, and support problem-solving, building self-regulation, empathy and kindness.

  • Rest that fits the child

Every child is offered a daily rest or nap, flexible to their needs. Children who don’t sleep enjoy books or quiet activities, always supervised.

  • Out in the community

Neighbourhood walks and park visits connect children with their community. Infants ride in strollers; children 18 months+ may join supervised walks.

Movement

Fundamental movement skills

Structured, educator-led games and unstructured, child-led free play both build:

  • Running
  • Jumping
  • Climbing
  • Balancing
  • Coordination
Enrichment

Optional enrichment

The centre may offer optional enrichment activities such as art, music, pottery, Zumba, and other fun experiences to support children’s creativity, movement and self-expression. If offered, they take place during regular attendance hours and require separate registration and fees.

  • Art
  • Music
  • Pottery
  • Zumba

Healthy days

Nutrition & feeding

  • Each classroom has its own refrigerator; families provide prepared lunches (hot food in a thermos).
  • An optional centre snack program follows the BC Health Guide, for a separate snack fee.
  • Bottles are warmed in warm water only (never a microwave), and infants are always held while feeding.
  • Feeding times and amounts are recorded daily and shared with families.
